The most expensive career mistake?

Spending years moving in the wrong direction.

A year spent in the wrong role, building the wrong skills, or chasing something that doesn't fit can mean:

  • delayed promotions
  • missed growth opportunities
  • tens of thousands in lost earning potential

Career Direction Finder is a structured, one-on-one process I developed while working at companies such as PayPal and Meta, to help you find the direction that's actually right for you.

It's not that you don't have options.

It's that you have too many.

If you're in data or tech and wondering what's next, you're probably staring down some version of this list:

  • Stay where you are
  • Become a freelancer
  • Start a side business
  • Join a startup (or start one yourself)
  • Academia
  • Transition to management
  • Move to a similar role in another company
  • Leave data and tech altogether

Too many options that couldn't be more different. None of them is perfect, all have pros and cons. Choosing the wrong one can be incredibly expensive.

Career Direction Finder is built for data and tech professionals facing exactly this kind of crossroads. If that's you, you're in the right place.

About me

I'm Shachar. Data and Tech Executive with over 20 years of leading data and analytics teams, from early-stage startups to companies like PayPal and Meta. I sat on the other side of the table for hundreds of career conversations: as the hiring manager, the mentor, the person promoting people or watching them leave for the wrong reasons.

The pattern I kept seeing wasn't a lack of options. It was capable people stuck comparing them in their heads, with no structured way to actually weigh what mattered to them. Career Direction Finder is the process I built over the years to fix that: the same rigor I'd bring to any other hard decision, turned on my own field, for my own clients, as a product.

How it works

Over the years, I developed a process that turns the ambiguity of choosing career direction into a clear and obvious decision, with clear actions.

The process has 4 steps:

1

Assess your current situation

Before we talk, you fill in a short questionnaire about your situation: experience, constraints, what you can and can't compromise on, etc.

About 20-30 minutes.

2

Map out your options, together

On a live call, we lay out your real options side by side. Not generic categories, the actual paths that are available for you (the ones you're currently considering, and the ones that aren't even on your radar).

3

Create a decision framework

Career decisions are complex because there are many options, they all vary on different dimensions, and there are many constraints. We map all of this out, together, to make the decision obvious.

4

Walk away with a clear game-plan

You leave the meeting with a clearer direction, and a clear set of actions to take.

What my clients say

An investment, not a cost

$1,300

That's the fee for a single, focused session, but it's not really the cost you should be weighing. The real cost is the cost of inaction:
A year (or more) spent moving in the wrong direction: a delayed promotion, a missed opportunity, a role that was never the right fit.

These things cost far more than $1,300, and they compound fast.

This session is built to pay for itself many times over, by helping you avoid exactly that.

If you walk away without real clarity, let me know within 48 hours and I'll refund you in full, no questions asked.

I only take on 2 assessments a month, so I can give each one my full attention.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the live session take?+

Sessions are booked for an hour, but it's highly advised that you block an extra 30 minutes in your calendar in case we need to run over, and also for your own reflections after the session.

What do I need to prepare?+

You will get a questionnaire with context to fill ahead of the session.

What does the session look like?+

It's a live video call (Zoom or Google Meet). I work with clients across time zones, so we'll find a time that works for you when you book.

What happens after the session?+

You'll get a full report covering everything we discussed, your decision framework, and the list of actions we agreed on during the session.

What if it doesn't help me?+

If you walk away without real clarity, let me know within 48 hours of the session and I'll refund you in full, no questions asked.

Is this a personality test?+

No. Career Direction Finder doesn't sort you into a type. It compares your specific options against the things that actually matter to you, and shows which one wins on your own terms.

What if my options or priorities change afterward?+

It's very common that more information comes up after our session. What you get is a decision framework that you can apply with the new information.
